- Changes to the Belcar Championship regulations make the pursuit of victory and overall title with Porsche possible
- Michelin remains tire partner for the Porsche Endurance Trophy Benelux
Zonhoven, January 28. A few months before the start of the thoroughly renewed Belcar National Endurance Championship, the promoters of Belcar and the Porsche Endurance Trophy reached an agreement to extend their strong collaboration. This is important news for the teams and drivers who put their trust in the legendary German brand. Indeed, with the disappearance of the CN prototypes and other related cars, the GT cars once again become the top class in the national championship, making the Porsche 992 GT3 Cup one of the weapons to fight for the overall victory and the national title. Porsche will compete against other legendary GT brands such as Lamborghini, Ferrari or Audi. From this point of view, the renewed collaboration with Michelin as a tire partner is also important news.
In recent years, the Porsche Endurance Trophy has always been good for a battle within a battle in the Belcar Endurance Championship, officially the national Belgian endurance championship. The concept was crystal clear, with separate standings and championships for the various Porsche racing models, naturally including those cars in the overall standings. However, due to the presence of the open CN prototypes and related cars, it was almost impossible for the GT cars, such as Porsche, to also fight for the overall victory. The disappearance of those prototypes in 2022 means that the GT cars will now be back at the very front of the race.
Rudi Penders: “This brings the Belcar Endurance Championship back to its past and tradition, which involved GTs and touring cars. The presence of the Porsche Endurance Trophy in the national championship is very important, because in this way we form the basis of the championship and this time that basis can also fight for the overall victory. The various Porsche models have been successful in Belcar several times in the past, just think of the time of AD Sport, GLPK, PSI and RTM or later First Motorsport, GPR or other teams that put their trust in Porsche. They won several titles and of course also several times the 24 Hours of Zolder, still the highlight of our championship. Porsche has many years of experience with endurance racing and the new Porsche 992 GT3 Cup is a good proof of that, just look at the performance of the cars of Belgium Racing, NGT, RedAnt Racing, Speedlover and Q1 TrackRacing last season. But the Porsche 991 and the Porsche Cayman GT4 are also perfect racing cars in that context. The legendary reliability of the Porsche and the speed of the car are the perfect combination to be successful.”
The Porsche Endurance Trophy also continues the long-term collaboration with tire partner Michelin, a collaboration that has been very successful in recent years. In order to support the teams as best as possible, a parts service and technical support will also be available at all Porsche Endurance Trophy races, both at home and abroad.
The Porsche Endurance Trophy starts on 14 and 15 May, of course at Circuit Zolder.
