Battle of the giants, as the Xwift Belgian Truck Grand Prix sets the stage for the second endurance race of the season
Porsche aims to continue its winning streak in the Belgian endurance championship Belcar
Zonhoven, June 20, 2024. The Porsche Endurance Trophy Benelux is a permanent part of the highest level of Belgian endurance racing and next weekend the championship head to the track in Limburg for the second time this season. Once more, the race will take place over 125 minutes, but now alongside the Belgian round of the European Truck Championship, the heavyweights of motorsport, so to speak. Can Q1 Trackracing succeed after winning the season opener, or will we get another winner on Sunday afternoon at Circuit Zolder?
With six Porsche 911 GT3 Cup – Type 992 – we get a teaser of the 24 Hours of Zolder in about two months' time. We can expect to see as many as ten identical Porsche 911s during the Belgian endurance classic. This Sunday we see the teams that were already fighting for victory in mid-May, with the challenger RedAnt Racing, the East Flemish team that two weeks ago had none other than two-time world rally champion Kalle Rovanperä make his debut in the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux.
In mid-May, Q1 Trackracing won the opener of the Porsche Endurance Trophy Benelux, which outpaced Belgium Racing in the final round. Q1 Trackracing not only won the Porsche Endurance Trophy Benelux with Dirk Schouten and Filip Teunkens, but also won overall in the Belcar Endurance Championship. For the second race, Nicolas Vandierendonck replaces the Dutchman Dirk Schouten in the green-yellow Porsche. Dylan Derdaele and Jan Lauryssen will of course do it again at Belgium Racing. MM Racing finished third in Zolder and achieved a great first podium place in the Porsche Endurance Trophy Benelux. Brothers Mick, Tom and Steve Meurrens will of course be there again this weekend and prove that the Porsche Endurance Trophy Benelux is a perfect environment for gentlemen drivers.
Just like during the first race weekend, we also see YDM-Racing (Geussens-Yondem) and Speedlover (Renmans-Meulders), in addition to the RedAnt Racing example with Dirk Van Rompuy and Nico Verdonck. No fewer than six identical Porsche 911 GT3 Cup – Type 992 – will compete and decide who will stand on the highest step of the podium at the end of this second race.
The fastest GT4 during the New Race Festival was the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport from Tip Top by NGT with the duo Arthur Peters and Kenny Herremans. They will be opposed by, among others, the Saber Management Racing Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport of Denis Vanmol and Julien Hody.
The assignment for the coming weekend is identical to that of mid-May, with a 125-minute race. The weekend starts with a 45-minute free practice session on Saturday, starting at 11:10 am, followed by the qualifying session at 2:55 pm.
The race itself starts on Sunday at 12:10 PM and the finish flag will be waved at 2:15 PM.
